The Outreach Coordinator is a new opportunity for a motivated individual who will be responsible for the development and implementation of new outreach initiatives in the Basser Center for BRCA, focusing on increasing awareness of BRCA1/2 mutations in minority populations at Penn, in Philadelphia and beyond. In collaboration with Basser Center and related Penn Medicine staff, s/he will develop, implement and evaluate new education and support initiatives focusing on the Latinx and African American communities. As these communities have high rates of underutilization of genetics services, this is a critical initiative for the Basser Center to expand culturally sensitive approaches to mitigating these issues in various communities and this individual will enable the Center to move forward with this focus. In collaboration with the Administrative Director and other Basser Center staff, the coordinator will work with a variety of departments in Penn Medicine including development, marketing and the ACC Office of Diversity in support of program development. Additionally, the coordinator will serve as the primary liaison in developing collaborations with external organizations working in various communities in support of minority health such as Puentes de Salud, The Well Women Coalition, Bebashi and related organizations around the country. Through this coordination and collaboration with both with internal departments and external organizations, the coordinator will identify barriers to genetic testing in these communities and develop approaches to overcoming these barriers. This will include content development for patient facing materials and s/he will work with our colleagues in marketing to facilitate production of collateral materials focused on these communities. In addition the coordinator will develop content for use on Basser's social media accounts and website and will work with our social media coordinator to implement this content. S/he will be responsible for producing specific processes and deliverables resulting in outreach events in various communities utilizing newly developed educational materials. The development of this initiative will often involve working with multidisciplinary teams both at Penn and externally on an ongoing basis as we develop and refine programs. S/he will monitor progress and timelines and innovate for future work. Some local travel and occasional work after hours or on weekends may be required. Fluency in Spanish is required.
